Take a day off and celebrate your hard work.
New York, NY, September 1, 2025, Kim Dynasty

In the late 19th century, during the Industrial Revolution, workers faced long hours, low wages, and unsafe working conditions. Labor unions began organizing strikes and rallies to demand better treatment, including the eight-hour workday. The first Labor Day was celebrated on September 5, 1882, in New York City, organized by the Central Labor Union. It included a parade of workers and speeches about the importance of labor rights. In 1887, Oregon became the first state to make Labor Day an official holiday. On June 28, 1894, President Grover Cleveland signed a law making Labor Day a national holiday. The day serves as a reminder of the labor movement's role in securing rights like weekends, minimum wages, and safer working conditions.
